Social Emotional Learning (SEL)- 1:1 or Small Group Coaching

“SEL”coaching is a dynamic process that assists individuals in recognizing and attaining their academic, personal, and professional aspirations through the provision of guidance, encouragement, accountability, and mentorship.  SEL coaching is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to enhance their emotional, mental, and physical well-being, relationships, educational pursuits, career, or personal growth.

In the 21st century, preparing students for success transcends traditional academic subjects and technological proficiency. It is imperative to prioritize the development of critical lifelong skills that empower students to confidently navigate challenges and thrive in both their personal and professional lives

A Portrait OF A Graduate and Learning Competency Skills:

“A Portrait of a graduate”, is being used as part of a skills framework for school districts around the country. Vested stakeholders want to ensure that the final “portrait” is authentic to neurodiverse and neurotypical children, and their communities. Their belief and goal is to have graduates be college, career, and life ready. “Skills that will help to address various inequality and empower young people and adults to co-create thriving schools, workplace, and contribute to safe, healthy and just communities (2021-panaroma-casel’s new definition of SEL)”.

What is SEL?

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) involves cultivating a valuable skill set that empowers students and young adults to:

  • Exercise Self-Control: Enhance their ability to manage impulses and reactions.
  • Set Goals: Establish clear objectives for personal and academic growth.
  • Understand and Manage Emotions Effectively: Develop emotional intelligence and regulation.
  • Make Responsible Choices: Encourage decision-making based on sound judgment.
  • Problem Solve: Equip them with effective problem-solving strategies.
  • Reduce Anxiety and Stress: Provide tools for managing and alleviating anxiety and stress.
  • Develop Healthy Relationships: Foster positive and meaningful interpersonal connections.
  • Cultivate a Healthy Mindset: Nurture a positive and growth-oriented mindset.                                                                                                                              

CYC’s program is based on  CASEL’s model. Individuals will learn invaluable skills promoting personal development, reducing stress and anxiety, and fostering healthy relationships, setting students and young adults on a path to success.

Self-Management

Abilities to understand your emotions, thoughts, values, triggers, and how they influence behaviors at home, school, and in communities. Learning to recognize strengths, limitations and knowing when to self-advocate.

Self-Awareness

Ability to manage your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively , being flexible, adapting to different situations, demands, and to achieve personal goals and aspirations. Being able to manage stress, anxiety, and feel motivation and urgency to stay focused on accomplishing personal, and life goals.

Relationship Skills

Ability to have healthy and supportive relationships and to effectively navigate settings with diverse individuals and groups. Includes the capacities to effectively communicate, listen, cooperate, compromise, be flexible, and work collaboratively to problem solve.

Responsible Decision Making

This includes the capacities to consider ethical standards and safety concerns, societal norms, and to evaluate the benefits of healthy choices. Learning responsible decision making, consequences, accountability, reducing risky behaviors, and building resilience.

Problem Solving

This often involves discussing issues and brainstorming solutions with others. Equipping individuals with strong communication skills, such as active listening and expressing thoughts and feelings clearly, which are vital for collaboration in problem-solving.
